Our 95th Festival in 2022 promises the return of fan-favorite events and a more traditional festival. The 95th theme artwork was once again designed by the Festival’s talented graphic designer, Erik Zimmerman, of White Spider, Inc. The artwork and its message reflect the grand return of festivalgoer favorites including crowd-filled parades, Queen Shenandoah royalty, popular celebrities, carnival games and delicious food at the midway, and marching bands filling our streets with joyful sounds that resonate the fond message that “Bloomin’ Good Times” are back.

As young boys, Christopher and Taylor Malpass soaked up the music of their granddad’s phonograph records. Christopher earned his first talent show trophy at age 7, and Taylor was playing mandolin by the time he was 10. In their teens and early 20’s they were invited by Country Music icon, Merle Haggard, to perform as his opening act. They traveled and recorded with Hag for the next 7 years. Currently fan favorites on TV shows like Larry’s Country Diner and Country’s Family Reunion and on stages like the Grand Ole Opry – the brothers are coming into their own as they promote the work and music of the classic country artists they treasure while creating new music and making their own mark in the lineage of a rich American cultural heritage.

Progressive “new-grass” pioneers The Arcadian Wild bring their tight harmonies and incredible pickin to SummerStage. Led by songwriters Isaac Horn (guitar) and Lincoln Mick (mandolin), and with the support of Erik Coveney on bass and Bailey Warren on fiddle, The Arcadian Wild confidently inhabits and explores an intersection of genre, blending the traditional with the contemporary to create a unique acoustic sound that is simultaneously unified and diverse. With one foot planted firmly in choral and formal vocal music, and the other in progressive folk and bluegrass, the band offers up songs of invitation: calls to come and see, to find refuge and rest, or to journey and wonder.

Blending a variety of musical styles ranging from swing, blues, rock, and soul, this high-energy concert by The Judy Chops will feature original tunes from their recent album Love Is the Answer which features Southern traditions; from soul to funk to rockabilly, the band jumps from genre to genre on almost every song. The Staunton septet—consisting of William Howard (electric guitar, vocals), Molly Murphy (hollowbody guitar, vocals), Sally Murphy (banjo, vocals), Mike Pressel (trumpet), Rachel Smith (baritone saxophone), Jim Hinkle (bass) and Jess Bergh (drums)—clearly enjoys navigating through all these sonic changes.
