Sweet dreams at Skyland and Big Meadows Lodge
During the winter season from late November throught early April, all lodging is closed. But now is a perfect time to plan a return visit in the spring!
Skyland is located at mile 41.7 at the highest point along Skyline Drive in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park at an of elevation of 3680 feet. Big Meadows Lodge is located 9 miles south at mile 51. Skyland encompasses 36 acres with 28 buildings and 178 rooms situated on along the crests and wooded areas. Skyland is open early April through November. Big Meadows Lodge has a historic main lodge with 39 rooms plus an additional 58 rooms in buildings located along the ridge and wooded areas. The lodge is open mid-April through early November. Both properties are located in the central section of the part with hiking trails all around. The close proximity of the Shenandoah River, Shenandoah Valley to the west and Piedmont region to the east of park facilities makes lodging and cabin rentals a desirable vacation destination.
If you are looking for a more primitive and isolated place to stay, look no further than Lewis Mountain Cabins at mile 57.6. These housekeeping type cabins offer the comfort of cozy accommodations with private shower baths, and an adjacent covered shelter where you can do your own cooking at a fire pit grill. You provide food, coolers, utensils, charcoal, etc. We provide the ambiance of nature’s bounty.
Lodging at Big Meadows Lodge
Big Meadows Lodge is located one mile from the large, grassy meadow at mile 51 on Skyline Drive – a meadow which is ideal for gorgeous night skies viewing.
Lodging accommodations range from main lodge rooms to detached small cabins, preferred and traditional rooms, suites, and pet friendly rooms – all located within walking distance of the main lodge building.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and safety guidelines, many of the regular events and activities have been cancelled. However, there are a series of Stargazing programs featured at both Skyland and Big Meadows Lodge, all following the current social distancing and other CDC guidelines.
